U2 In An Apple Commercial - Before the iPod?

Interesting.  I didn't know that U2 was part of Apple Computer's "Think Different" ad campaign.  Stumbled upon this video while searching for something else.

http://u2jam.com/view/173/u2-think-different-commercial/

UPDATE: I found a copy on YouTube and apparently this person (Inamoment) created the video, inspired by Apple Computer's "Think Different" ad campaign.  Sure looks like a real commercial.  Too bad. Ha ha ha.

I Need A Lift

This is one of the songs I would listen to while going to college if I needed something to lift my spirits.  Nothing like a good 1980's song from when MTV broadcast music videos 24 hours a day.

Ultravox - "One Small Day" from the album Lament

Filmed on the Isle of Lewis (off the coast of Scotland) amongst the Callanish Standing Stones.

Together Now

I like this rather uplifting song.  It is from the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar and performed by Jacky Cheung ("Asia's Most popular singer Asian performer in the world").  Rumor has it that the song was originally written for some commercials promoting the Games, but I guess the powers that be were blown away when they heard the demo that they used it for the Opening Ceremony instead.

Update: This video has the entire segment of the performance. Song starts at about 1:45.

Bit o' trivia #1: The Opening Ceremony was produced by the same group of people that put on the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Bit o' Trivia #2: Music and lyrics by Iva Davies.

Good Cover Version?

Many people have sang their version of David Bowie's "Heroes."  Some sound good and others...well....

The song as performed by David Bowie.

This cover version by Australia's Icehouse is by far the best.

Icehouse also did a version of "Heroes" for the Sydney Dance Company's production of "Berlin" that was arranged by Iva Davies and David Chapman for vocals, cello, piano and drums.  This version is available on Icehouse's The Berlin Tapes, which is now out of print.  Sorry, no video or audio sample available.

Comments welcomed!  Thanks!

Journey -- WOW!

Did you know that Journey is currently touring?  (Woo! Jonathan Cain still looks hot. Heh.)  No one can replace Steve Perry's singing, but they still have the essence of the "sound."

The new lead singer's name is Arnel Pineda.  Who would have thought that a voice like that would be found in the Philippines?  Go to http://is.gd/7AZA and scroll to the last news item to find out how Arnel was "scouted" out by Neal Schon.  Here's one of the videos that Schon saw on that fateful night of perusing good ol' YouTube.
